Welcome to the Academy Nomination Portal!

The Academy of Electrical Contracting is always seeking to add qualified individuals to Academy Fellowship - by honoring them for their “outstanding and exceptional” services rendered to the electrical contracting industry.

Before You Begin

Think about who is making the nomination?
You need to determine if the nomination is being made by a chapter or two Fellows of the Academy.

Maintaining confidentiality throughout the process is essential.
It is imperative that the nominee not be aware of the nomination to avoid any potential embarrassment if a nominee is not unanimously selected by the Jury. In a normal year, ten to twenty-five percent of the nominees will not receive unanimous approval on their submittal (meaning that they are rejected). In the case of a vote at a meeting of a chapter’s Board of Directors, a secret ballot taken outside of a regular meeting is recommended.

The Process

1. Find Out if Your Nominee Meets the Requirements for Eligibility

Article II, Section 1 of the Rules of the Academy of Electrical Contracting includes detailed requirements.

(a) Must have served for at least ten (10) consecutive years in an executive position(s) with a member firm or NECA Chapter, and/or with the Association itself.

(b) Must be associated with an organization which is affiliated with the Association (unless retired).

(c) Each organization with which the nominee is associated as an officer, director, employee or agent, or has an ownership interest, must be affiliated with the Association.

(d) Must have rendered to the industry, either nationally or locally, services so outstanding and exceptional as to be beyond any normal call of duty or loyalty.

2. Who May Submit a Nomination

Article II, Section 2 of the Rules of the Academy of Electrical Contracting offers several options for nominating an individual for Fellowship:

(a) Any two Fellows of the Academy who are well acquainted with the nominee- each Fellow must write a letter of recommendation that acknowledges the history of the relationship.

(b) By a majority of the members of the Board of Directors of any Chapter. Such a nominationmust be signed by the Chapter President or Chapter Governor.

3. Completing on-line Nomination

As you complete a nomination, you will enter information for the nominee, upload a photo, answer questions regarding the nominee's background, employment, etc. It's important to include verbiage to convey to the Jury of Fellows that the nominee has “rendered to the industry, either nationally or locally, services so outstanding and exceptional as to be beyond any normal call of duty or loyalty.” Certain Letters are required, depending upon who is endorsing a nominee (an Academy Fellow and/or chapter officer).

The DEADLINE for submitting the package to the Academy Staff is March 1 as required by the Rules of the Academy, Article II, Section 2 (c).

Knowing that people are often rushed trying to gather and complete all the parts of the nomination package, we allow some flexibility with the March 1 deadline. However, to earn this “flexibility”, the application must be initiated by the March 1 deadline. Any remaining information must be submitted no later than March 31.

FOR ASSISTANCE:
Secretary of the Jury of Fellows, John Grau will work with nominators to achieve their goal of submitting an acceptable nomination package for their nominee. Grau reviews nominations for “evidence of exceptional service”. Should he find situations where the distinguished service narrative does not appear to adequately present such “service”, he will contact the nominator to discuss ways the nomination package might be improved.

4. Communications and Installation

Following final submission, the nominator will receive an automated message, confirming receipt of the nomination. Once the review is complete, Academy staff will notify the nominator with any recommended edits or confirm that the nomination is ready for submission to the Jury.

Contact following the review by the Jury of Fellows:
The Secretary of the Jury will contact the nominator of anyone who does not receive unanimous approval. The Secretary of the Jury can advise any nominator of the outcome of any nominee, but no communication regarding the outcome of the Jury process will be in writing. The Secretary of the Academy will communicate with the nominator of successful nominees and determine next steps regarding who will notify the nominees.

NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE:

How Are Nominees Notified of Their Acceptance?

When the nominee has successfully passed, either the Secretary of the Academy or the nominator will notify the nominee of their acceptance, following the annual June Board of Directors meeting. Confirming letters of congratulation will be mailed to each new Fellow and will include an invitation to attend the upcoming NECA Convention for their installation ceremony into the Academy at the Opening General Session.

INSTALLATION INTO THE ACADEMY OF ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING

When are New Fellows Installed?

The letter from the Chairman will advise of installation at the next NECA Convention. The Academy Secretary will follow the Chairman’s letter with further information about the responsibilities of a Fellow, the installation, etc.
